What do I need to calculate an order?

Choose an item and fresh books, each with one enchantment. Enter the prior work count if the item has already been used in an anvil. Existing enchantments and durability repair are not included.

Why does the anvil say “Too Expensive”?

In Survival, an operation costing 40 levels or more is unavailable. Prior work increases the cost. The combining order matters: follow the left and right slots shown for each step.
